Sustainable Travel International

Routes to Learning Canada has been a registered member of Sustainable Travel International (STI) since Fall 2007.

Founded in 2002, Sustainable Travel International (STI) is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing education and outreach services that help travelers, travel providers and related organizations support environmental conservation and protect cultural heritage while promoting cross-cultural understanding and economic development.

STI's current priorities include:

  • Providing educational resources to travelers and travel providers, to assist them in making positive contributions to environmental conservation and socio-cultural sustainability
  • Developing, adopting, and marketing sustainable tourism standards and practices through the Sustainable Tourism Eco-Certification Program (STEP)
  • Supporting the use of carbon offsets, enabling travelers and travel providers to offset unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions related to travel, business and their personal lives
  • Facilitating donations of financial resources, time, talent and economic patronage to help travelers and travel providers protect and positively impact cultures and environments around the world
